Euroanaesthesia is one of the world’s largest and most influential scientific congresses for anaesthesia professionals. Held annually throughout Europe, our congress is a contemporary event geared towards education, knowledge exchange and innovation in anaesthesia, intensive care, pain and perioperative medicine, as well as a platform for immense international visibility for scientific research.

The Specialist Societies contribute to high-quality educational opportunities for European anaesthesiologists and intensivists, fostering discussion and sharing, while the National Societies, through NASC, maintain standards, promote events and courses, and facilitate connections. All partnerships collectively drive dialogue, learning, and growth in the anaesthesiology and intensive care sector.

Awards and Grants

BJA-ESAIC Grant

The BJA-ESAIC Grants are a collaborative initiative between the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) and the British Journal of Anaesthesia Charity. The aim of these grants is to support early career researchers in conducting high-quality anaesthesia-related studies that can improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.

BJA-ESAIC Grants 2024 – ‘Early Career’

Two grants each for 60 000€

The submission process for short-abstract Grant applications and schedule

Grant applications can only be submitted online via the ESAIC submission form. The abstract text should not exceed 2500 characters (including spaces). Abstracts submitted in hard copy or e-mail will not be accepted. All submitted grant applications will go through a peer-review process carried out by international reviewers from the BJA-ESAIC Steering Committee. A maximum of 40 applications will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Please note that all applications must be written in English. Please write as simply as possible and avoid language mistakes. If English is not your first language, we recommend that you have your application reviewed by a native speaker before submission.

Please note that due to the high number of applications that are received, it is unfortunately not possible to provide individual feedback to applicants.

Eligibility criteria & conditions

  • All applicants for a grant in the framework of the Grant Programme must be a qualified member of an institution in one of the countries that are represented in the ESAIC Council as defined in the By-laws of ESAIC.
  • All applicants should have received their highest degree (PhD, MD, DMD, DVM, or equivalent) no more than five years (basic scientist- clinician) before 1 January in the year the Grant is awarded (2024). For clinicians holding more than one qualifying degree (e.g. MD PhD) or with a clinical specialist degree/board certification, the time since the first degree may not exceed ten years before 1 January in the year the Grant is awarded (2024).   • Exclusion criteria: existing projects or studies that have already received a grant either from a private, not-for-profit, industry or institutional source
  • The work must be performed in one of the European countries that are represented in the ESAIC Council or from which the National Society is a Society Member of the ESAIC may apply. Collaborative studies among different European countries may be supported. In this case, it is necessary to receive recommendation letters from all the institutions participating in the study.
